MTV Today
"Real World" MTV's first reality TV show aired May 21, 1992. Since then, MTV has grown and developed many more shows. They've created a reality TV "craze" that major TV networks still feed today (Big moments in the history of MTV). Today MTV revolves around reality TV shows such as: Jersey Shore, Made, Teen Mom, Teen Wolf, and many more. Although not as attached to music as in the 1980's, MTV's still plays music today, even if it is only occasionally.
The Channels impact has made it all over the world. Its international expansion has described MTV as "ahead of the competition in nearly every market" (MTV's WORLD). In countries like Russia and China, MTV has even competed with top domestic shows from the countries.
Only 4 hours a day is actually music related on MTV today. The rest of MTV's schedule is reality TV shows. MTV's lack in music is mainly due to the internet, as MTV encourages its users to go on to the website to watch music videos rather than use TV time to promote them. MTV's website has quickly become one of the largest sources on the web for music videos, and this has cleared up airtime to promote other shows, shows that have seemingly little or nothing to do with music.
